What is it about January that zaps away energy? I'd promised you (and myself) a wreath for every month of this year, and so today was a scramble to put together something, anything, wreath-like. There's nothing like the last day of a month to force out the creativity!
When I set myself this wreath-of-the-month challenge, I had millions of ideas -- mostly involving wire, hot glue and beautiful home-grown greenery. But now, where on Earth is that spool of wire? What on Earth should I glue to what? And why on Earth does all my basil keep dying?
Clearly, a new direction was needed. And it just so happened that all the freezer-paper and paints from the last project were still out on the kitchen table (the one up side to Justin being away!)
As if to punish me for putting off the wreath for so long, Tilly had one of those days. She was happy to play by herself for precisely ten seconds -- precisely enough time for me to do... well, absolutely nothing. So, channeling all these new Mummy muscles, I hiked Tilly up under one arm, and painted with the other. (Please note: I did the cutting while she napped. Let's not get carried away with multi-tasking!)
So, with exactly three hours to spare until February starts, may I present...
January's wreath!

Brilliant idea and so creative with the freezer paper. I know just what you mean about struggling with January's creativity!
Maybe February's could involve rabbits!
It is gorgeous, well done! And with a baby on the arm no less. Hats off to you! I also know what you mean by January zapping energy. I must admit to my shame that I did not produce a wreath this, even though I had high ambitions too. I will get on it for February though! :)
ps. Card is on its way...
Well done on keeping your resolution, it looks great. Are you keeping them up all year or do you have a spot for the current month
Fabulous! It looks great Astrid. Wait til Tilly doesn't nap during the day anymore at all. Boy did I mourn the baby days when Sophia dropped her naps (you've got a few years left though hopfeully!). On the plus side, I've just ordered some freezer paper, inspired by your gorgeous designs, and a cutting mat. But forgot to get something to cut with - back to Amazon/ebay...
Thanks, everyone! It felt so good to get it done -- next month's resolution is to do it a bit faster.
Mum -- great idea, rabbits it is.
Jadyn -- can't wait to see what you make for February!
Debbie -- no, I think they'll rotate. We've got an ugly spot on the front door where there's a door-knocker shaped hole, so there'll always be something over that, and then we'll see where else one will fit!
Jodie -- yes, I'm enjoying these naptimes while I've still got them! Glad you found some freezer paper online, it seems scarce in England. Just any old bog-standard exacto-knife will work (or scissors)... but it's easier to be precise with a pointier craft knife.
Fantastic wreath, well played with the baby in the arms too!
Ugh, I'm totally feeling the zapped energy...where did it all go!?
I absolutely love this wreath!
I really must give freezer paper a go:)
